The E39 Rogfast project by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration is crossing the Boknafjord and Kvitsøyfjord north of Stavanger with an underwater tunnel in an effort to create a ferry-free motorway between Kristiansand and Trondheim. Once finished, the tunnel will be the world's longest and deepest undersea tunnel.
The E02 Kvitsøy contract is considered to be the most complex part of the Rogfast project, with the tunnels located approximately 230 metres below the sea surface. Execution is being carried out from the island of Kvitsøy and comprises a total of around 8.8 km of tunnels with a cross-section of 10.5 m, crossings within the tunnels, technical buildings, pumping stations, a roundabout and two ventilation shafts. The two ventilation shafts will have a depth of 230 m each and an excavation diameter of 9,4 m and 8,6 m. The shafts will be executed by raise drilling and subsequently widening of the profile by Drill and Blast. Support will be executed with bolts and shotcrete, when necessary systematical injection of the rock will be carried out. The scope of work is including the design and engineering, construction and delivery of the shaft equipment, the excavation and support works of the shafts as well as the coordination of the raise drilling works. Works on the shafts will start in November 2024 and will be finished in September 2026.
